Skate Instructor

JOB DESCRIPTION

 The City of Orillia, Recreation & Youth Services Division is looking for qualified weekend Skating Instructors to teach Pre-Hockey and Skating Lessons.

 DUTIES

  • Instructing participants in our Pre-Hockey program and Learn to Skate programs; including Parent and Tot, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced classes.
  • Responsible for supervising the ice surface.
  • Responsible for enforcing rules and regulations in accordance with program procedures.
  • Responsible for effectively overseeing participants with an emphasis on the safety of the patrons while promoting leisure.
  • Perform general cleaning and maintenance when required.
  • Provide First Aid, and other duties as required.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience instructing or teaching is considered an asset.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR.
  • Instructors must be confident in their teaching and skating abilities.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Applicants must be able to pass a skating assessment which will include demonstrating the skills they will be required to teach. 

The successful candidates are required to obtain an acceptable Criminal Record Check at their expense, prior to the beginning of employment.

Hours of work will vary depending on the requirements of the individual programs. Evening and weekend shifts may be required for this position in addition to large scale tournaments when applicable.  Compensation for this position is $17.50 per hour.
