Assistant Lifeguard/Instructor (Fall 2024)

JOB DESCRIPTION
Supervise participants, maintain complete vigilance to minimize risks, and be ready to respond at all times to emergency situations, and assist with swimming lessons and events.

 

DUTIES
• Assist with the facilitation of the Aquatic Admission Standards testing during swims.
•Assist with planning and teaching swimming lessons.
• Maintain a safe and tidy program space ensuring equipment is set-up and stored appropriately.
• Provide a high level of front-line customer service including greeting and engaging participants.
• Understand, adhere to, and enforce City of Orillia Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff.
• Remain on duty until relieved by another qualified lifeguard/instructor.
• Fill in for shifts of co-workers in case of absenteeism.
• Attendance at all pre-season and in-service/training is mandatory.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
 


QUALIFICATIONS
• Current Bronze Cross Award.
• Lifesaving Society Assistant Instructors would be an asset.
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR –C (dated within 2 years).
• High Five: Principles in Healthy Child Development an asset.
• Must possess strong organizational, customer service and both written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
• Previous leadership experience working with children is an asset.

 

Work hours vary up to 40 hours per week and may include evening and weekend shifts. The successful candidate will be required to obtain an acceptable and current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check at their own expense prior to the employment commencement date.
