Personal Trainer - Fitness Floor (Casual)

JOB DESCRIPTION
The City of Orillia is seeking to fill the causal position of Personal Trainer – Fitness Floor, in the Parks and Recreation Division of the Environment and Infrastructure Services Department. The Personal Trainer – Fitness Floor, supervises the fitness floor and deliver’s high quality fitness experiences and promotes membership opportunities that are stimulating and enjoyable for all guests. The Personal Trainer – Fitness Floor supervises and maintains a safe, enjoyable environment for all guests.

DUTIES
- Supervise the fitness floor; engage with guests to promote a positive experience and ensuring everyone’s safety.
- Conduct tours of the fitness centre and promote memberships and services.
- Provide a high level of front-line customer service including greeting and engaging guests.
- Deliver fitness programs/consultations/orientations.
- Maintain complete vigilance while on duty and be ready to respond to any emergency.
- Assist in the delivery of fitness programs following required standards.
- Complete administrative duties in a timely manner (e.g., attendance, incident/accident reports, opening and closing procedures).
- Maintain a safe and tidy program space ensuring equipment is set-up and stored appropriately.
- Inspect equipment to ensure safety and report any concerns to supervisor.
- Clean the gym by wiping down all equipment, sweeping and mopping the floors, emptying trash bins, and returning weights and mats to their proper places.
- Report all concerns, accidents and incidents to immediate supervisor for follow up and take appropriate action.
- Participate on and off site in promotional and community events.
- Maintain an understanding of department programs and services.
- Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff.
- Attend meetings/training as required.
- Personal Training is part of this role and compensated at a higher rate to be negotiated.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Current Certified Personal Trainer (Can Fit Pro).
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR C from an accredited organization.
- Must possess strong organizational, customer service and both written and oral communication skills.
- Degree/Diploma in Physical Education/Kinesiology/Recreation an asset
- FIS (Fitness Instructor Specialist) considered an asset for the purpose of small group training.
- Additional certifications considered an asset.
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check is required prior to the employment commencement date at the expense of the incumbent.
This is a part-time position, work hours vary up to 40 hours per week and may include evening and weekend shifts. Currently looking for candidates that are available:
- Tuesdays 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
- Thursdays 6:00 a.m. -10:00 a.m.
- Fridays 9:00 a.m. -1:30 p.m.
Must be available for quarterly fitness staff in-service training dates.
Compensation for this position is $21.30/hour and Personal Training starts at $28.69 /hour. The hours for this position will vary for up to 44 hours per week based on operational needs. Interested applicants are invited to submit an application by January 30, 2026, at Noon.
