Aquatic Supervisor
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Corporation of the City of Orillia has an opening for a full-time position of Aquatic Supervisor in the Recreation, Youth and Culture Division of the Corporate Services Department.
DUTIES
- Create long-range plans for the growth and development of aquatics programs for the community, including but not limited to the Orillia Recreation Centre, Moose Beach and Couchiching Beach.
- Oversee the implementation and supervision of all aquatic programs and services including planning, organizing, scheduling and delivering high quality safe and stimulating programs for all levels of participants.
- Review the collection of accurate records of program statistics as required by the Recreation, Youth and Culture Division.
- Create and execute on-going promotion of all aquatic programs.
- Lead in the planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive pre-season training programs for all aquatic staff, as well as in-service trainings throughout the season.
- Supervise, schedule, coach and evaluate all staff and volunteers responsible for carrying out aquatic programs.
- Lead the aquatics team in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating special events.
- Track all certifications and qualifications held by aquatics staff to ensure currency and adherence to Regulation 565.
- Responsible for the ongoing maintenance and replacement of safety equipment and recreational equipment.
- Liase with Ontario Public Health and ensure aquatic centre and waterfronts are in compliance with standards and regulations.
- Review important HR documents before final submission, including payroll, worker incident reports, contract paperwork, etc.
- Monitor the use of equipment and supplies, conduct inventory counts and re-stock as needed.
- Take appropriate action upon the report of all concerns, accidents and incidents and direct unsolved issues to the immediate supervisor for follow up.
- Attend meetings/training as required.
- Provide support as a Head Lifeguard, Head Instructor, Aquafit Instructor, Lifeguard, or Instructor when necessary.
- Maintain complete vigilance while on duty and be ready to respond to any emergency situation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A Degree or Diploma in Recreation & Leisure Services or related field.
- Current Lifesaving National Lifeguard Pool, Lifesaving Society Swim instructors, Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor, and Lifesaving Society Emergency First Aid Instructor, High Five: Principles in Healthy Child Development, Aquatic Supervisor Training, Bronze Examiner, National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner, Standard First Aid Instructor/Examiner, Standard First Aid with CPR – C (dated within 2 years). Instructor Trainer award and certification is required in at least one stream.
- Extensive previous experience in lifeguarding and instructing.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills, including both verbal and written
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team with proven supervisory, judgement and interpersonal skills.
- Previous leadership experience working with children.
- Possess a valid class ‘G’ Ontario’s driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- A current and acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check is required for this position at the incumbent’s expense, prior to the commencement date.
QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED ASSETS
- Aquafit Instructor certification considered an asset.
- Experience using ActiveNet and Evolia considered an asset.
Compensation for this position is $73,438 to $85,912 based on a 35-hour work week plus a comprehensive benefits package. This position offers a flexible 35-hour work week, with typical office hours from Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 am – 7:00 pm.
