Specialty Supervisor-Leadership in Training (Contract)
JOB DESCRIPTION
The City of Orillia is seeking a dedicated Specialty Supervisor-Leadership in Training to join our team in the Recreation, Youth and Culture Services Division of the Corporate Services Department. Reporting directly to the Camp Coordinator, the Specialty Supervisor- Leadership in Training will be responsible for being the Supervisor for the entire summer of Leadership in Training. This role is essential for ensuring quality and consistency across all specialty camps throughout the summer.
DUTIES
- Oversee the delivery and quality of Leadership in Training, ensuring engaging and enriching experiences for participants ages13-14 years.
- Assist in the training and onboarding of staff for Leadership in Training, providing guidance on program objectives and best practices.
- Monitor daily operations of Leadership in Training, ensuring adherence to safety standards and program guidelines.
- Conduct regular assessments and evaluations of Leadership in Training programming and staff to ensure quality and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with other camp coordinators and supervisors to ensure a cohesive approach across all camp offerings.
- Provide support and mentorship to camp counselors and staff within Leadership in Training.
- Assist in the administrative aspects of Leadership in Training, including supply shopping and resource allocation.
- Maintain regular communication with parents and caregivers regarding camp details and participant progress.
- Be the first to respond to emergency situations, coordinating with supervisors as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to promote professional development and alignment with program goals.
- Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures, and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience working with children in a camp or recreational setting is preferred.
- Relevant degree or diploma in Education, Recreation, Child Development, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to foster a positive team environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively engaging with staff, campers, and parents.
- Behavioral Management System (BMS) certification from an accredited association, organization, or institution is required. This training will be provided by the City of Orillia and confirmation of ability to attend this training will be asked upon application.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification from an accredited organization is required. (Please see below for the dates the above qualifications are being offered. Applicants are required to obtain this training prior to their start date.)
- High Five- Principles of Health Child Development is required. (Please see below for the dates the above qualifications are being offered. Applicants are required to obtain this training prior to their start date.)

This position is a seasonal contract position that includes evening and weekend shifts. The successful candidate will be required to obtain an acceptable Criminal Record Check and current Vulnerable Sector Check at their own expense prior to the employment commencement date.
