Accounting Supervisor/Junior Financial Analyst
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Corporation of the City of Orillia has an opening for the full-time position of Accounting Supervisor/Junior Financial Analyst in the Financial Services Division of the Corporate Services Department.
DUTIES
- Oversee and supervise all aspects of Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payables including invoicing, collections, payments, appropriate authorizations, internal controls, and timely, accurate processing. Supervise the month-end and year-end process including analysis and review to ensure timely and accurate information.
- Hire, supervise, train and evaluate staff performance through conducting annual performance reviews; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
- Assist with maintaining the integrity of information of the financial system, including, general ledger maintenance, subledger reconciliation, fixed assets, etc.
- Prepare and oversee journal entries, bank reconciliations, HST reporting, PCard submissions, etc.
- Undertake financial analyses to ensure timely, accurate information is available for internal reporting.
- Assist with the preparation of audit working schedules and supporting documentation for the year-end/audit process e.g. financial statements, financial information return, performance measures and other reports as required.
- Assist in the preparation and financial aspects of grant and subsidy applications for Deputy Treasurer and the CFO review and assist in the annual financial planning process as required.
- Maintain donation records and issue tax receipts; preparation of annual Statement of Treasurer for expenses paid to Council and Board members.
- Liaise with the Financial Planning Analysts to forecast cash flows and support the Deputy Treasurer with investment and debenture administration and collaborate with members of Finance as well as other departments to provide support, access to information, and customer service.
- Review and document processes and engage in continuous process improvement, including but not limited to facilitating electronic transactions, process efficiencies, adherence to GAAP, PSAB and Municipal Act requirements, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
- College diploma in business administration, accounting, finance or related discipline.
- Minimum two years of progressive experience in a municipal financial setting with preference given to previous supervisory experience.
- Currently pursuing a professional accounting designation is an asset, but not a requirement.
- Intellectual curiosity, an analytical aptitude and effective time management.
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
- Knowledge of accounting practices.
- Excellent judgment, initiative, supervisory, organizational, written, and oral communication skills with the ability to work in a team or independently.
- Strong computer skills in MS office applications and familiarity with accounting systems, preferably Great Plains and CaseWare.
- Must possess a valid class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- An acceptable Criminal Record Check is required for this position at the incumbent’s expense, prior to the commencement date of employment.
Compensation for this position is $66,104 to $77,332 (2024 rates) for a 35-hour work week, plus a comprehensive benefits package. Interested applicants are invited to apply by January 6, 2025, at noon.
