Camp Area Lead (Summer 2026 Contract)

JOB DESCRIPTION
The City of Orillia is seeking two dynamic Camp Area Leads (formerly Site Supervisor) to join our team in the Parks and Recreation Division of the Environment and Infrastructure Services Department. Reporting directly to the Team Leads, the Camp Area Lead will play a key role in overseeing daily camp operations, supervising senior leaders, and providing support and guidance to ensure a safe and engaging experience for all campers.
DUTIES
- Supervise and support Camp Leaders, providing guidance and assistance to maintain high standards of care and engagement.
- Assist in the development, coordination, and delivery of staff training to ensure a well-prepared and unified team.
- Act as the primary point of contact for staff, addressing concerns and facilitating effective communication among team members.
- Monitor daily camp operations to ensure adherence to safety protocols and program guidelines.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of daily activities, ensuring they are inclusive and engaging for all participants.
- Conduct regular evaluations of counselor performance and provide constructive feedback to promote professional development.
- Assist supervisors in staff coaching, feedback delivery, and performance evaluation processes.
- Be the first to respond to emergency situations, providing support and coordinating with supervisors as needed.
- Maintain regular communication with parents and caregivers regarding camper progress and any relevant concerns.
- Collaborate with the Team Lead, Buddy Program and Logistics and Team Lead and Staff and Camper Care to ensure that all campers receive appropriate support and accommodations.
- Monitor facility accommodations and activity areas to ensure safety and suitability for all campers.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to ensure ongoing professional development and alignment with program goals.
- Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures, and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience working with children in a camp or recreational setting is preferred.
- Have completed or are currently pursuing a degree or diploma in Education, Recreation, Child Development, or a related field.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to foster a positive team environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively engaging with staff, campers, and parents.
- The City will provide one opportunity for the successful candidate to obtain Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) Training certification at no cost. If the candidate is unable to attend the scheduled training or does not complete it, they will be responsible for obtaining the certification at their own expense.
- High Five- Principles of Healthy Child Development is required. (Please see below for the date and registration link for available HIGH FIVE–PHCD course, applicants are required to obtain this training prior to their start date).
- A valid and acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check must be provided prior to the employment commencement date, at the incumbent’s expense.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification from an accredited organization is required. Please see below links for First-Aid registration, applicants are required to obtain this training prior to their start date.

High Five – Principles of Healthy Child Development – May 5, 2026
Successful candidates will be required to participate in Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) Training on May 9, 2026.
This position is a seasonal contract position (May 1, 2026 to September 4, 2026) that includes evening and weekend shifts. Compensation for this position is $19.78 to $20.38/hour (2025 Rate) based on qualifications. Interested applicants are invited to submit an application by January 16, 2026, at Noon.
