The City of Orillia is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Facility Attendant.

 

Reporting to the Facilities Coordinator/Lead Hand Facility Attendant, this position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and upkeep of City-owned facilities. The role supports a safe and welcoming environment through minor repairs, interior and exterior maintenance, seasonal snow removal, and routine cleaning. The position requires a self-motivated individual who can work independently, follow cleaning and health and safety standards, and operate equipment effectively.

 

Candidates must possess Grade 12 or equivalent and knowledge of health and safety regulations. Candidates must be able to work independently, understand standard cleaning procedures and equipment, and preferably have previous facilities maintenance experience.

 

The City of Orillia offers a competitive wage and benefits package, and registration with the OMERS pension plan. This is a Unionized position. The wage range for this position is $24.72 to $27.05 per hour based on a 35-hour work week.

  Duties

  • Perform minor repairs such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC for various city-owed facilities.
  • Responsible for painting and drywall repairs.
  • Snow removal and salting of sidewalks during the winter season.
  • Maintain grounds including grass cutting, weeding and litter pick-up.
  • Maintain storage areas and equipment, materials and supplies in a safe and orderly manner to ensure the safety of staff and the public.
  • Conduct various inspections on a daily, weekly or monthly basis including fire life safety equipment, facilities, and health and safety.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of all City owned facilities by ensuring the interior of building and main entrances, including the immediate exterior are clean at all times.
  • Keep floors clean in a good state of preservation (floor finish); dust and vacuum when necessary.
  • Scrub, mop and disinfect washrooms, clean all sanitary fixtures, and replenish washroom supplies daily.
  • Wash interior of windows, glass partitions and all surfaces (walls, doors, shelves, fire equipment) as required.
  • Empty and clean wastepaper receptacles and garbage pails daily.

  • Previous facilities maintenance experience is an asset.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability

Physical Demands

  • Physical demand requires field work in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Close attention is required in equipment operation to ensure safety of the operator and bystanders.
  • Fall arrest equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required in accordance with City policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

  • Possess a valid class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s licence with acceptable Drivers Abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • A current and acceptable Criminal Record Check is required prior to the employment commencement date, at the incumbent's expense.
