GIS Technician (Summer Student - Three Positions)

JOB DESCRIPTION

The City of Orillia has three openings for the contract position of GIS Technician (summer students) in the Asset Management and Maintenance Division of the Environment and Infrastructure Services Department. The contract duration will be a 16-week period between May 2026 and September 2026. 

The City does not use artificial intelligence in the hiring process. All job applications are reviewed personally by the appropriate Department/Division.  These are existing summer student positions that are filled on a seasonal basis.

DUTIES

  • Asset data collection through the City.
  • Review and verify 911 data.
  • Assist staff with data collection, trend analysis, and simple map preparation using GIS software.
  • Collect, review, verify, and enter information/data into databases/forms, as well as perform analysis and evaluation of information.
  • Digitizing, scanning, compiling, preparing, processing and updating data from digital files or hard copy maps to ensure standardized information and completeness of data.
  • Assisting in the quality control and maintenance of spatial and tabular data to ensure data quality and completeness.
  • Other duties as assigned in accordance with corporate objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Recently completed or currently enrolled in a post-secondary diploma or degree program with demonstrated education and experience with GIS.
  • Competent and familiar with ArcGIS Pro 10 suite of products, as well as ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online applications.
  • Experience with GIS programming and scripting would be an asset.
  • Experience with AutoCAD would be an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Valid Ontario Class ‘G’ driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
  • An acceptable Criminal Record Check is required for this position at the incumbent’s expense, prior to commencement of employment.

Compensation for this position is $18.83 to $19.40 per hour for a 40-hour work week. Interested applicants are invited to submit their application by February 13, 2026, at noon.
