Activity Attendant (Part-Time)

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Corporation of the City of Orillia is seeking Activity Attendants within the Parks and Recreation Division of the Environment and Infrastructure Services Department. This position ensures safe and enjoyable participant experiences during these activities and plays a key role in upholding safety standards and facilitating positive experiences for all facility users.

DUTIES

  • Supervise public skating sessions as Skate Patrol to ensure a safe environment for all participants.
  • Operate the rock-climbing wall during drop-in times, including harness checks, safety monitoring, and participant instruction.
  • Serve as host for birthday party rentals including facility setup/tidy-up, greeting guests, and providing customer support during the rental.
  • Enforce facility rules and promote respectful behavior among patrons.
  • Support risk management and first aid response, as required.
  • Handle feedback in a professional manner while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of department programs and services.
  • Report all concerns, accidents and incidents to the immediate supervisor and take appropriate action.
  • Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff.
  • Complete necessary forms and documentation (e.g. incident reports, attendance sheets).
  • Maintain equipment and supplies related to programming areas.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Previous experience in a recreational or child/youth setting is considered an asset.
  • Must demonstrate maturity, initiative, and sound judgment.
  • Physical ability to skate (for Skate Patrol) and to supervise active environments.
  • Comfort working with children, families, and diverse community members.
  • Enrolled in or completed secondary school.
  • Recreation or child development courses are considered an asset. 
  • Experience in a municipal, recreation, or customer-facing setting.
  • Experience working with children (camps, babysitting, coaching, etc.).
  • Skating
  • Rock wall climbing
  • Current Standard First Aid / CPR C / AED from an accredited organization.
  • A current and acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check (CRC/VSC) is required prior to the employment commencement date, at the incumbent's expense.

 

Compensation for this position is $17.89 to $18.43 per hour. Successful candidates must be available to work weekends and occasional weekday evenings.
