Capital Project Specialist

The City of Orillia is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Capital Project Specialist.
Reporting to the Manager of Capital Programs, the Capital Project Specialist is responsible for the implementation of various facility, parks and City property capital projects to optimize City assets, extend useful life and support City services and functions.
Candidates must possess a minimum three year diploma or degree in Engineering or related discipline, as well as a minimum of three years of experience implementing projects, preferably in a municipal environment. This position requires excellent computer skills including MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, e-mail, and the internet.
The City of Orillia offers a competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits package, and registration with the OMERS Pension Plan. The salary for this position is $90,879 to $106,316 based on a 40-hour work week.

In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition.

- Adjusting schedules or sequencing of activities within a project
- Make minor decisions related to project scope and timeline without impacting program needs
2. Examples of situations or problems that are referred to this position for direction or resolution.
- This position may work to develop a variety of solutions for renovations, retrofits and minor new capital and partner with others on the most appropriate one.
- Options to adjust budget through value engineering or other means.
- Research the marketplace for project benchmark information.
Minimum Qualifications
Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
- Minimum three-year diploma or degree in Engineering or related discipline.
Experience
- Minimum of three years of experience implementing projects, preferably in a municipal environment.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation an asset.
- Demonstration of strong project management skillset to effectively track and coordinate multiple, complex projects, including various stakeholders, timelines, budgets and scope.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, structural and building envelope, natural environment, controls and management systems.
- Excellent computer skills including MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, e-mail, and the internet. Experience with energy and asset planning systems is an asset.
- Possess excellent leadership, time management, organizational negotiation and communication skills with the ability to multi-task.
Physical Demands
- Sitting, standing, or walking. Work is conducted in a standard office environment with continual visual concentration required.
- Proper personal equipment (PPE) is required when on-site at various construction projects and facilities.
Position Requirements
- Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- A current and acceptable Criminal Record Check is required prior to the commencement date.
- Attendance at meetings, seminars and conferences as required.
- Must have a high-speed internet connection and a proper workstation at a home location to enable remote work. Please refer to the Working From Home procedure.
