IT Student- Technology Initiatives

JOB DESCRIPTION

The City of Orillia has an exciting opportunity for a University Information Technology (IT) Student or recent graduate who will work directly with the Manager of Information Technology & Customer Service in the Business Development, Tourism and Modernization Division of the Corporate Services Department.

 

The emphasis for this position is to automate, enhance and implement technology initiatives. The successful candidate will work as part of a small IT Team providing all IT services. This position provides the opportunity to work across all IT disciplines in a municipality.

 

DUTIES

  • Perform research, make recommendations and converse with experts on a wide range of Information Technology topics including leveraging Office 365 for new and innovative business processes.
  • Write briefs, prepare business cases and perform presentations to the Senior Management team regarding recommendations on future IT strategy, products and approaches.
  • Gather business requirements and document existing business processes. Determine the business processes used in other municipalities. 
  • Document Project Charters and perform project management tasks.
  • Work with other Business Units to optimize and automate business processes using Business Process Optimization techniques.
  • Perform Project Management Tasks including the documentation of requirements, and the installation of new equipment and software.
  • Work as a member of the I.T. team to provide technical support to the organization.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in, or a graduate of a University program with in one or more of the following fields of study: Computer Science, Information Management, Information Science, Computer Engineering Technology, or Business with some IT Experience/courses.
  • Knowledge of research and forecasting techniques.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, writing, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 products such as Outlook, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint.
  • Familiarity with Cloud Based Software and Solutions.
  • Must possess a valid class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide a current and acceptable Criminal Record Check, at their expense, prior to the employment commencement date.

 

Compensation for this position is $19.78 to $20.38 per hour for up to 35 hours per week, with flexibility based on the successful candidate’s availability. This position provides the successful candidate with the flexibility to work from home up to two days per week.
