310T Mechanic – Fleet Services
The City of Orillia is less than 90 minutes from the Greater Toronto Area. The City of Orillia is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of 310T Mechanic – Fleet Services.
The City does not use artificial intelligence in the hiring process. All job applications are reviewed personally by the appropriate Department/Division. This position is a new position created through the budget process and is currently vacant.
Reporting to the Manager of Fleet, the 310T Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, preventative maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of a diverse municipal fleet of mobile and stationary equipment. This position ensures fleet availability, safety, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective lifecycle management in support of municipal operations year-round, including emergency and winter control activities.
Candidates must possess an Ontario 310T Truck and Coach License for hiring.
The City of Orillia offers a competitive wage and benefits package, and registration with the OMERS pension plan. The wage range for this position is $30.21 per hour with progression after successful completion of a 90-day probationary period to $31.05 per hour based on a 40-hour work week.

Position Synopsis and Purpose

*Note: All activities are expected to be performed in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs. In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition.
Minimum Qualifications
Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent.
- Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification: 310T – Truck and Coach Technician.
Experience
- First aid and WHMIS training an asset.
- 421A – Heavy Duty Equipment Technician considered an asset.
- 310S – Automotive Service Technician considered an asset.
- Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification (EVT) is considered an asset.
- Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible experience repairing heavy, medium, and light-duty vehicles and equipment, including hydraulic and computerized systems.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability
- Knowledge of maintenance and repairs for various municipal equipment and vehicles, including but not limited to; snowplows, sidewalk machines, dump trucks, backhoes, loaders, trailers, pick-up trucks, sweeper trucks, vac trucks, fire apparatus.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and judgment skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
Physical Demands
- Required Regular physical activity including climbing on and off equipment, lifting, pulling, and handling heavy components.
- Work performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Exposure to noise, vibration, chemicals, fuels, and other hazardous materials; required use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Ongoing risk of minor injuries, with occasional potential for more serious incidents inherent to mechanical work.
- Confined space and fall arrest equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required in accordance with City policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Position Requirements
- Possess and maintain a valid class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract.
- A current and acceptable Criminal Record Check is required prior to the employment commencement date, at the incumbent's expense.
- Availability for overtime and flexible hours to support emergencies and peak operational demands.
- Participation in a rotating on-call schedule during the winter season, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to respond to after-hours callouts within 30 minutes.
- Must supply and maintain an adequate set of personal mechanical tools suitable for heavy equipment maintenance.
