Team Lead - Camper and Staff Care (Summer Contract 2026)

JOB DESCRIPTION
The City of Orillia is seeking a dynamic Team Lead – Camper and Staff Care (formerly Camp Coordinator) to join our team in the Parks and Recreation Division of the Environment and Infrastructure Services Department. Reporting directly to the Program Coordinator, the Team Lead will play a key role in managing summer programs, including camp administration, supervision, training, and coordination.
DUTIES
- Assist with the hiring event for Camp Senior Leaders and Camp Area Leaders.
- Lead the pre-planning and preparation for camp, encompassing the daily schedule, participant recruitment and enrolment, application processes, and excursion planning, ensuring alignment with budgetary constraints and program needs.
- Oversee the development and implementation of summer programs, including all aspects of day camp administration.
- Responsible for scheduling staff throughout the summer, ensuring that staffing levels remain within budget. Ensuring the schedule maintains an appropriate staff-to-camper ratio, making sure enough staff are always present.
- Provide leadership, training, and coordination for all summer program staff to ensure a cohesive and effective team.
- Collaborate with supervisors and co-team leader in a fast-paced environment, requiring quick decision-making.
- Supervise and assess the performance of the day camp staff to ensure high standards of care and engagement.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and evaluations of the summer day camp program to ensure quality and effectiveness.
- Monitor facility accommodations as per activity and safety needs.
- Maintain regular communication with parents/caregivers of participants during program duration.
- Respond to emergency situations, providing support and guidance while coordinating with Senior Leaders as needed.
- Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures, and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff.
- Must attend all staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum two years of experience working with children, preferably in a day camp or recreation environment.
- Have completed or are currently pursuing a degree or diploma in Education, Recreation, Child Development, or a related field.
- The City will provide one opportunity for the successful candidate to obtain Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) Training certification at no cost. If the candidate is unable to attend the scheduled training or does not complete it, they will be responsible for obtaining the certification at their own expense.
- Valid “G” Ontario driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
- High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development is required. (Please see below for the dates and registration link for available HIGH FIVE–PHCD course. Applicants are required to obtain this training prior to their start date).
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to manage a staff team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively engaging with staff, campers, and parents.
- A valid and acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check must be provided prior to the employment commencement date, at the incumbent’s expense.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification from an accredited organization is required. (Please see below links for First Aid registration, applicants are required to obtain this training prior to their start date).

Successful candidates will be required to participate in Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) Training on May 9, 2026.
This position is a seasonal contract position (May 1, 2026 to September 4, 2026) with full-time hours that include evening and weekend shifts.
