Community Liaison Assistant (Contract)

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Corporation of the City of Orillia has an opening for a contract position of Community Liaison Assistant in the Business Development, Tourism and Modernization Division of the Corporate Services Department. The contract period will begin on May 11th, 2026.
The City does not use artificial intelligence in the hiring process. All job applications are reviewed personally by the appropriate Department/Division. This is seasonal position that is currently vacant.
DUTIES
- Provide guided walking tours of the interior and exterior of the Leacock Museum along with sharing information on the history of the family, Stephen Leacock’s works and historical buildings, including the boathouse.
- Provide support in artifact research, conservation, organization and digitization within the museum’s historical archive space and research rooms.
- Research exhibit subjects and assist in obtaining permissions along with didactic creation and interpretive planning for the museum’s upcoming special exhibit.
- Provide basic care, cleaning and maintenance of the museum’s historical buildings with particular attention to all public and staff areas including hallways, walkways and gift shop.
- Other duties as assigned in accordance with corporate objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a student who is planning to return to full time studies in September 2026. Studies in English, Teaching, History, Art, Hospitality/Tourism, Museum Studies or a related field are an asset.
- Experience using PastPerfect or a similar museum database system is an asset.
- Excellent organization, planning and communication skills both written and oral including proficient in MS Office Suite.
- Ability to work with little supervision as well as within group settings.
- A current and acceptable Criminal Record Check is required for this position at the incumbent’s expense, prior to the commencement date.
Compensation for this position is $17.60 per hour for up to 37.5-hours per week. Applications will be accepted until March 18, 2026, at Noon.
Funding for this position may be included as part of the Young Canada Works program. The successful candidate may need to fulfill the requirements of the program prior to employment.
