JOB DESCRIPTION

The City of Orillia is seeking a highly motivated Fitness Floor Staff to help support the day-to-day operations of the Fitness Centre. The Fitness Floor Staff are responsible for creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment within the Fitness Centre. This contract/casual role combines customer service, fitness instruction, facility supervision, and operational support. The ideal candidate will also provide personal training services to clients. DUTIES

  • Supervise the fitness floor; engage with guests to promote a positive experience and ensuring everyone’s safety. 
  • Conduct tours of the fitness centre and promote memberships and services. 
  • Provide a high level of front-line customer service including greeting and engaging guests. 
  • Deliver fitness programs/consultations/orientations. 
  • Maintain complete vigilance while on duty and be ready to respond to any emergency. 
  • Assist in the delivery of fitness programs following required standards. 
  • Complete administrative duties in a timely manner (e.g., attendance, incident/accident reports, opening and closing procedures). 
  • Ensure a safe, organized program environment by properly setting up, taking down, supervising, and storing equipment for fitness and gymnasium activities.
  • Use of technology including Microsoft Teams, CityWide and Evolia (staff scheduling software)   
  • Inspect equipment to ensure safety and report any concerns to supervisor. 
  • Maintain cleaning practices to ensure that fitness and program spaces remain safe and organized.
  • Report all concerns, accidents and incidents to immediate supervisor for follow up and take appropriate action. 
  • Participate in on and off site promotional and community events. 
  • Maintain an understanding of department programs and services. 
  • Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff. 
  • Attend meetings/training as required. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Delivering personal training services including; fitness assessments, designing, implementing safe and effective workouts, reaching out and responding to clients in a timely manner and keeping organized records and files.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 18 years of age. 
  • Current Certified Personal Trainer (Can Fit Pro). 
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR C from an accredited organization. 
  • Must possess strong, technology, organizational, customer service and both written and oral communication skills. 
  • Degree/Diploma in Physical Education/Kinesiology/Recreation is an asset 
  • CSEP (Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology) Personal Training Certification is an asset
  • FIS (Fitness Instructor Specialist) and additional fitness certifications considered an asset.

 

Hours of work vary based on operational needs, up to 40 hours per week and include evening and weekend shifts. Candidates must be available for the following shifts: Mondays 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Fridays 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and every other Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  

 

Must sign off and be available for all quarterly fitness staff in-service training dates, the remaining dates for 2026 are as follows:

·       June 13, 2026, 6:00 p.m-8:00 p.m.

·       September 12, 2026, 6:00 p.m-8:00 p.m.

·       December 12, 2026, 6:00 p.m-8:00 p.m.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain an acceptable and current Vulnerable Sector Check at their own expense prior to the employment commencement date.

 

Compensation for this position is listed as follows:

Personal Trainer 1 (New Trainer)

$28.68 per hour

Personal Trainer 2 (More than 300 hours)

$34.50 per hour

Personal Trainer 3 (CSEP Certified and 300 hours)

$38.90 per hour
