Trades 2 Operator
The City of Orillia is less than 90 minutes from the Greater Toronto Area. The City of Orillia is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Trades 2 Operator.
Reporting to the Manager of Collection and Distribution and the Supervisor of Metering and Backflow Prevention to perform non-certified water/wastewater operator related activities such as water meter work, service repairs, customer service investigations, and storm system work. The position is on an on-call rotation.
Candidates must possess Minimum Grade 12 Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, a minimum of two years’ experience with heavy equipment operation, and a valid class ‘DZ’ Ontario’s driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract and access to a reliable vehicle.
The City of Orillia offers a competitive wage and benefits package, and registration with the OMERS pension plan. The wage range for this position is $27.62 per hour with progression after successful completion of of a 90-day probationary period to $28.50 per hour based on a 40-hour work week.

*Note: All activities are expected to be performed in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs. In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition.
Minimum Qualifications
Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
- Minimum Grade 12 Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
- Operator-in-Training Certificates and Entry Level Drinking Water Course for Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, Wastewater Collection and Water Distribution and Supply an asset.
Experience
- Minimum of two years’ experience with heavy equipment operation.

Previous water meter experience an asset.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability
- Knowledge of water and wastewater operations and water meters and backflow an asset.
- Safety training including WHMIS and Basic First-Aid and CPR.
- Ability to work as a team player and must get along well with others including those of different cultural, gender and nationality. This individual shall also demonstrate acceptable public relations skills in dealing with the public.
Physical Demands
- Physical demand requires field work in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
- The work of the position requires considerable climbing on and off equipment, managing and operating heavy equipment, and lifting and pulling heavy objects.
- Close attention is required in all heavy equipment operation to ensure safety of operation, co-workers and the general public. There will be extended periods of concentration requiring mental-sensory coordination.
- Available to work overtime and flexible hours as required to handle emergencies and poor weather conditions.
- Confined space and fall arrest equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required in accordance with City policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Position Requirements
- Possess a valid class ‘DZ’ Ontario driver’s licence.
- Required to be part of the on-call rotation and must respond within 30 minutes.
