The City of Orillia is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Project Official III - Stormwater.

Reporting to the Project Engineer - Stormwater, the Project Official III - Stormwater is responsible for reviewing and responding to drainage complaints as well as assisting in the coordination of Stormwater Management projects including Master Plan Updates, infrastructure upgrades and Low Impact Development opportunities.

Candidates must possess a post-secondary Diploma in Engineering Technology or Degree in a Civil Engineering related discipline, as well as an OACETT Certified Technologist designation. Additional education and working toward a P. Eng. licence with Professional Engineers Ontario is an asset.  This position requires excellent computer skills including MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.


The City of Orillia offers a competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits package, and registration with the OMERS Pension Plan. The hourly rate for this position is $31.73 to $37.50 per hour 
based on a 35-hour work week, pursuant to the wage schedule for IBEW – Clerical and Technical employees.

  • Support the Project Engineer - Stormwater with reviewing and responding to drainage complaints as well as assisting in the coordination of Stormwater Management projects including Master Plan Updates, infrastructure upgrades and Low Impact Development opportunities.
  • Support the planning, design and construction of municipal stormwater infrastructure projects including the preparation of requests for consultant quotations, proposals and preparation of construction tender documents.
  • Assist with the preparation of applications for permits and approvals as well as review and comment on stormwater infrastructure for development approval applications.
  • Assist in the collection of data and the implementation of municipal stormwater modelling software including field data collection.
  • Other duties as assigned in accordance with corporate objectives.

  • Assist with maintaining GIS mapping and responsible for municipal utility mapping.
  • Maintain and update the City’s drawing archives and reference indexes and retrieve drawings for background review.
  • Provide locate information for municipal infrastructure including water, sanitary, and storm sewer via drafting sketches with supporting documentation.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications) 

  • Post-secondary Diploma in Engineering Technology or Degree in a Civil Engineering related discipline.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability

  • Municipal drafting and design experience would be an asset.
  • Experience in topographic survey and layout using total station, data collector and civil design software would be an asset.
  • Excellent computer skills using AutoCAD, relevant design software, MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Experience with Geographic Information System software, Stormwater modelling software and Bluebeam would be an asset. 

 

Physical Demands

  • Work is conducted in a standard office environment, as well as in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles.
  • Field work includes construction sites with uneven footing and work within traffic zones.
  • Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when working with or near hazardous conditions or equipment in accordance with City policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

 

Position Requirements

  • Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle. 
  • A current and acceptable Criminal Record Check is required prior to the commencement date.
  • Must have a high-speed internet connection and a proper workstation at a home location to enable remote work. Please refer to the Working From Home procedure.
